Using the previous questions information about the CTFR gene

Using the previous question\'s information about the CTFR gene, how much of the 6, 500 nucleotide long CTFR mRNA comprises the 5\' and 3\' untranslated regions (UTRS)?

Solution

Given that CFTR protein is made up of 1480 amino acids.

1 amino acide made up of 3 bases( codon is triplet made up of 3 bases)

thus 1480 amino acids made up of - 1480*3= 4440 bases

but mRNa was 6500 bases, thus the untranslated portions(UTRs) are-

6500-4440= 2060 nucleotides.

Hence the UTRs are 2060 nucleotides.
