Find a possible equation for the functions below.

a) Use the general exponential formula

points (-2,0.48) and (2,18.75)

b)The vertical asymptote is x=-3 and the horizontal asymptote is y=1

Solution

a) general exponential equation is y=abx , contains (-2,0.48) and (2,18.75)

0.48 =ab-2

18.75 =ab2

18.75*0.48 =ab2ab-2

18.75*0.48 =a2

a=3

y=3bx contains (-2,0.48)

0.48 =3b-2

0.16 =b-2

b=2.5

equation is y=3(2.5)x

b)vertical asymptote is x=-3 => denominator conatins x+3

horizontal asymptote is y=1

numerator canbe any first degree polynomial with coefficient 1 except x+3

for example y =(x+4)/(x+3)
