total sold 500 tickets:

x +y = 500 ----(1)

8x +5y = 3040 ----(2)

solve both equations to get x and y:

multiply equation 1 by 8:

8x +8y = 4000

8x +5y = 3040

3y = 960

y = 320 balcony seats
