Calculate the pH for a 100 mM solution of strong acid Calcu
Solution
1. Strong acid = H+
Eg: pH of 100mM of HCL
100mM = 0.1 M and pH = H+
So pH of 100mM (0.1M) = - log (H+)
= - log (0.1M)
=1
2. Strong base = OH-
Eg: pH of 100mM of NaOH
i.e pH = OH-
14 (-1) = 13
5. A Biomolecule is a molecule that is present in living organisms may be inherited or can be produced or synthesised by the body. There are four categories of carbohydrates:
a) Nucleic acids (includes both DNA and RNA)
b).Carbohydrates
c). Proteins and
d). Lipids
6. Protein Mass Spectrometer is the instrument used to detect the amount of protein in a sample.
Working Principle: Mass spectrometry is a central analytical technique for protein research and for the study of biomolecules in general. The foremost step in this technique is the production of gas phase ions for the given compound. This undergoes fragmentation, results in the yeilding of a radical with odd number of electrons and also an ion with an even number of electrons. These ions are seperated in the mass spectrometer according to their mass to charge ratio.
7. 1L = 20 X 106 M (since 1 mole = 6.023 X 1023)
Therefore, 2/1000 X 20 X 106 X 6 X 1023
= 0.002 X 120 X 1029
= 0.24 X 1029
