Divide as indicated (polynomial expression)
X2 – 16/8x-8 ÷ X2 + 8x + 16/x2 + 3x - 4
Solution
(x^2 – 16)/(8x-8) ÷ (x^2 + 8x + 16)/(x^2 + 3x - 4)
Simplity by factorisation : (x^2 – 16)/(8x-8) = (x+4)(x-4)/8(x-1)
Simplity by factorisation : (x^2 + 8x + 16)/(x^2 + 3x - 4)
= (x^2 +4x +4x +16)/(x^2 +4x -x -4)
= (x +4)(x+4)/(x+4)(x -1)
=(x+4)/(x-1)
Now divide the simplied expressions: (x+4)(x-4)/8(x-1) ÷ (x +4)/(x -1)
=(x+4)(x-4)/8(x-1) * (x-1)/(x+4)
= (x+4)(x-4)(x-1)/8(x-1)(x+4)
=(x-4)/8
