A ball is thrown vertically upward with a speed of 26 ms How

A ball is thrown vertically upward with a speed of 26 m/s. How high does it rise? The acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s^2. Answer in units of m. How long does it take to reach its highest point? Answer in units of s. How long does it take the ball to hit the ground after it reaches its highest point? Answer in units of s. What is its velocity when it returns to the level from which it started?

Solution

a) h = v2 / 2 g = 262 / (2 * 9.8)

= 34.49 m

-------------------------------------------------

b) t = v /g = 26 / 9.8

= 2.65 s

-------------------------------------------------

c) t = sqrt [2 h / g] = sqrt [2 * 34.49 / 9.8]

= 2.65 s

--------------------------------------------------

d) v = g t = 9.8 * 2.65

= 26 m/s
