Facebook apparently started as a small social network in Harvard university when its founder wrote a code and shared it with students in the university to share their photos which was known as Facemash. It caught the fancy of the students and it became hugely popular in Harvard. Slowly its membership was opened to students of other universities and after September 2005 to everyone around the world.
