Mr. Schwann was taking inventory at his shop. He sells bicycles and tricycles. He counted 206 wheels and 170 pedals. How many bicycles and tricycles does he have in his store? (page 274) To receive credit, equations must be determined and then solved by some method. No credit will be given for only answers.
Solution
Let no of bicycles be x and tricycles be y
Total wheels = 2x+3y
Total pedals = 2x+2y
Given that total wheels = 206 and total pedals = 170
Hence 2x+3y = 206
2x+2y = 170
Subtract y =36
x = 85-36 = 49
Thus there are 49 bicycles and 36 tricycles
