Your friend claims that phloem always carries sugars down a plant. What, if anything, is wrong with that statement?
Solution
While the first part of the statement is true the phloem does carry sugar, the statement is not all true the phloem tissue carries sugar in a multidirectional. It carries the sugars during the spring season and the growth period all the plant sugars go to the roots and tubers thus making them sources of sugar. However after the growth period when the plant is in a dormant state the sugars start going to other parts of the plant such as the leaves and seed bearing parts (fruits) through a movent known as hydrostatic pressure movement.
