3-5 A 3-phase, 6 pole induction motor is driven by a cycloconverter that is fed from a 60 Hz line. What is the approximate maximum speed that can be attained with this arrangement

Solution

Generally cycloconverter are used to step down the frequency of supply to induction motor drive.so the maximum frequency from cycloconverter is the actual supply frequency=60 Hz.

Synchronous speed of induction motor=(120*f)/p

where p=no. of poles

Ns=(120*60)/6=1200 rpm

so the approximate speed of induction motor may be 1150 rpm.
