The most important characteristic that distinguishes meiosis
The most important characteristic that distinguishes meiosis from mitosis is the total number of chromosomes present in daughter cells. the number of times that S phase occurs prior to cell division. whether the chromosomes are duplicated at the end of cell division. the presence of metaphase in mitosis but not in meiosis.

  Solution
Mitosis and meiosis differ from each other in the number of chromosomes in the daughter cells. For example, in humans daughter cells of mitosis will have 46 chromosomes while daughter cells of meiosis will have 23 chromosomes.
