Chapter 6 is critically important to us for most of the rest
Chapter 6 is critically important to us for most of the rest of the term. In this chapter we investigate the connections & communications between single cells (the basic units of life), the whole organism (billions of cells) and the outside world.
Living organisms have evolved to make use of the physical laws of our planet (gravity, acceleration, entropy, 1st & 2nd laws of thermodynamics, etc.). Diffusion, because it costs us nothing, is the preferred method of communication throughout our bodies Yet it is restricted to short distances (approx. half a centimeter - Maximum). This works for the small flatworm which can get its oxygen and water directly through its skin and get rid of its metabolic wastes the same way. For larger living organisms it is necessary to build specific organs and communication systems that can carry products and messages throughout the whole organism, duplicate main processes on a much larger scale (oxygenation, digestion, waste collection & elimination, etc.) and still communicate with each of the billions of cells via capillaries, microvilli, alveolar sacs, etc.
Continue the discussion regarding what we consume vs what our body uses on a cellular level. Does seeing that we use a Sodium-Potassium pump to send cell signals change your mind about Gatorade? Does excessive consumption of carbohydrates help or hinder? How does the amount of water we consume affect our cell communication? You may comment on any of the concepts from Module 4 or 5.
Solution
we eat avareity of foods conatning proteins, carbohydrates, fats
proteins help the body grow, builds muscle and gives us energy.proteins rich foods include avacado, meat egg, nut, beans.
carbohydrates are the sugars that the body uses for energy.Simple carbohydrates are found in whit sugar, milk ,fruit. Complex carbohydrates are found in whole grain, vegetables, bread ,rice, peas.
fatsare needed for the body to grow and process vitamins. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are good for the body. These fats include nuts, fish, olive oil, canola oil.
Whatever we eat is converted to glucose, because that is what cells use on a cellular level to generate ATP. Carbohydrates are reaily converted to glucose.Proteins that contain amino acids are converted to glucose by gluconeogenesis.Ftas are also converted to glucose, glycerol can be converted to glucose by gluconeogenesis.
