Suppose that f(x)=x^2-3x-2 and g(x)=4x+1. Determine (f-g)(-2)

Solution

Given f(x) = x2 - 3x-2 , g(x) = 4x+ 1

(f-g)(x) = f(x) - g(x)

= x2 -3x -2 - 4x -1

By simplifying

(f-g)(x) = x2 -7x-3

Now we should substitute the (-2) in the above equation

(f-g)(-2) = (-2)2 - 7(-2) - 3

= 4 + 14 - 3

= 15

So we get (f - g)(-2) = 15
