Initiation: Binding to peptidoglycan made of hexasaccharide

Binding occur through the binding site of peptidpglycan to the cleft of lysozyme

Cleavage: Lysozyme cleavage site has glutamic acid which cleaves the glycosidic bond of fourth sugar in hexasaccharide.

Release of enzyme: aspartate of cleavage site of lysozyme makes glycosyl enzyme intermediate.

That leads to degradation of cell wall of bacteria.
