Shorttandem repeat STR loci are similar to the Alu loci from
Short-tandem repeat (STR) loci are similar to the Alu loci from your experiment. At STR____/9 loci, various alleles exist with different sequence lengths. While the Alu loci you examined have two different alleles (e g. T^+ vs T^-). STR\'s can have several different alleles. For example, gene H could have alleles H^1, H^2, and H^3. and gene K could have alleles K^1, K^2, K^3, K^4, and K5. a. How many genotypes can a given person have at the H locus? b. How many genotypes can a given person have at the K locus? c. How many genotypes can a given person have taking into account the H and K loci from this question plus the T and P loci from the lab?
Solution
Number of genotypes at a given locus=n*(n+1)/2
a)For H locus we have n=3, so number of genotypes =3*4/2=6
b) for K locus we have n=5. number of genotypes =5*6/2=15
c)The number of genotypes taking into account H AND K from this and T AND P= 6 +15 +2 +2=25
where we have 2 genotypes from each T AND P here.
