For the function gx 2x2 15x what is the slope of the secan

For the function g(x) = -2x2 + 15x, what is the slope of the secant line from x = 1 to x = 7?

Solution

g(1)=-2*(1)^2+15*(1)=-2+15=13

g(7)=-2*(7)^2+15*(7)=-98+105=7

The points on the curve are (1, g(1)) and (7, g(7)) i.e., (1,13) and (7,7)

Slope of line from (1,13) to (7,7) is :

(7-13) / (7-1)=-6/6=-1

Hence, the slope of secant is -1
