A columnist for the Daily News in New York City wrote about selecting lottery numbers. He states that some lottery numbers are more likely to occur because they haven\'t turned up as much as they should, and they are overdue. Is this reasoning correct? Why or why not? What principle of probability is relevant here?
Question 1) why the reasoning is not correct? Can you explain more? PLEASE!!!
Solution
This is Gambler’s Fallacy! How does it matter which numbers have so far been picked? Think about it. If you flip a coin and you get a head, do you really, very seriously, expect to get a tail on the very next toss? No! But suppose you’ve flipped five heads straight, or ten heads straight, then you definitely start expecting a tail soon. SOON. But not necessarily immediately
