Obviously enzymes are important. But do all organisms make the same enzymes, thereby allowing all organisms to perform the same metabolic (chemical) reactions? What would be the advantage, if any, of various organisms in nature having different enzymes?
Solution
Enzymes are proteins that act as catalyst which speed up the biochemical reactions. all living organisms have there own set of enzymes but they may differ by the factors such as organisms is aerobic or anaerobic, or it lives in which kind of environment, etc. the energy gaining reaction is glycolysis ! consider it in both prokaryotes in eukaryotes. In both cases we find same set of enzymes which help to breakdown the glucose molecule to gain energy. All organisms have protiolytic enzymes which help them to breakdown protein ex. proteases. thus the advantage is help them to breakdown food to get energy, as enzymes increase the rate of a reaction by lowering its activation energy. This is about basic enzymes which each and ever organism needs to sustain life. now about different set of enzymes like organism which is able to produce cellulases or ligninases is able to degrade lignin or cellulose present in environment and use as there carbon source, so these organisms help maintain ecological balance indirectly. Each organism plays its own role. mostly one product acts as a substrate to another enzyme and that product acts as an substrate to other one. So there is advantage of these enzymes to nature as well as to use ( industrial applications and consider our own metabolism, even respiration is associated with may enzymes ).
