Explain how to bend test the strips cut from the 10 gauge to 14 gauge carbon steel sheet metal.

Solution

There are three ways of conducting the test

1) Simple bend test: In this test, the sheet metal is placed over two fixed cylinders. and a third smaller radius cylinder pushes the sheet from the top. This results in bending of the sheet.

2) Bend test using a V-block: In this test, the sheet metal is placed over a V block , And a moving mandrel is used to bend the sheet from the top.

3)Bend over a specified radius: In this test. The sheet metal is fixed at one end and is forced to bend over a specified radius.
