Scenario You are a profiler for the FBI division of your loc

Scenario: You are a “profiler” for the FBI division of your local community. A body was found in a lake in a bag. Because of the decomposition of the body, it was initially difficult to know the age and sex of the victim. Develop a preliminary “profile” of the victim and offender using the information from the tables below and answering the questions that follows. Once completed, more information will be given (part E) about the person that was killed and you will then do the analysis again and see what changed, if any, in your “profile”. See the end of document for rules. NOTE: Table information is gathered from various sources.

I put totals below I just don\'t understand how to answer the questions

Directions: Calculations should be typed and look like: 123/234=.055555, rounded to .056 =5.6% under each of the numbered questions above. You can use the complement for any of the questions where appropriate, but work must still be shown.

1. How likely is it that the offender is at least 18?

2. How likely is it that the offender is white?

3. How likely is it that the offender is male?

4. How likely is it that the offender is a white male?

5. How likely is it that the offender is either white or male?

6. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are from that same age category?

7. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are from different age categories?

8. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are of the same race?

9. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are of different races?

10. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are of the same sex?

11. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are of different sexes? D. Profiles

12. ( 3 pts) What is your best prediction of the age, race, and sex of the victim? Explain your results using the probabilities/percents that you just found. Explanation should include the comparisons of percents.

13. ( 3 pts) What is your best prediction of the age, race, and sex of the offender? Explain your results using the probabilities/percents that you just found. Explanation should include the comparisons of percents. E. More information: Now that you have “profiled” the victim and the offender, you find out thru the autopsy, that the victim was a white female, blond hair, and age of mid-thirties. Based on this new information, develop a new “profile” for the offender, by answering the following questions: (4.5 pts)

14. How likely is it that the offender is at least 18?

15. How likely is it that the offender is white?

16. How likely is it that the offender is male?

17. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are from that same age category?

18. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are from different age categories?

19. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are of the same race?

20. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are of different races?

21. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are of the same sex?

22. How likely is it that the victim and the offender are of different sexes? F. New profile and analysis.

23. ( 3 points) What is your best prediction of the age, race, and sex of the offender? Explain your reasoning based upon the probabilities that you found.

24. (3 points) Did your “profile” of the offender change once you knew the age, race, and sex of the victim? Explain your reasoning based on the probabilities that you found. Is there any information in real life that would make the profile change or stay the same? Hint: In general, what do we know about murders in relationship to gender, race, etc.

I can gladly help you but you should post it in a new question

1. How likely is it that the offender is at least 18?

P = (589+5424+76) / 14048 = 0.4334

2. How likely is it that the offender is white?

P = (2163+1127+33) / 14048 = 0.2365

3. How likely is it that the offender is male?

P = (4417+1754+49) / 14048 =0.4428

4. How likely is it that the offender is a white male?

P = (2163) / 14048 = 0.1540

5. How likely is it that the offender is either white or male?

P = Pmale + Pwhite - Pwhitemale

P = 0.4428 + 0.2365 - 0.1540 = 0.5253
