A 67 kg skydiver jumps out of an airplane. What is her terminal velocity in miles per hour (mph), assuming that k = 10 kg/s for free-fall (no parachute)? terminal velocity = mph

Solution

From the units of k we can assume the air resistance ie given by ,

Fr=kv where v is velocity of skydiver at time t

k=10

g= 9.8 m/s^2

Terminal velocity is when air resistance becomes equal to graviational pull

Hence, mg=kv

v=mg/k=65.66 m/s

1 m/s =2.237 mph

Hence, v~146.88 mph
