Barbara bought a coat for $10 less than half the original price. She saved $80. How much did Barbara pay for the coat?
Solution
If the coat original price is x$,
Barbara bought it for (x/2)-10 $.
The savings is (x/2)+10 $ which is 80$. Hence (x/2) = 70 $, i.e. x=140$.
So Barbara bought it for (x/2)-10=(140/2)-10=70-10=60$.
