In a study to compare cancer treatments combined with exercise to determine their effects on the fatigue level of the patients, three treatments (radiation, chemotherapy, and a combination of radiation and chemotherapy) are used either with exercise or without exercise in all possible combinations. The fatigue level of the patients is measured before the study began, and again after 3 months, 6 months, 9months, and 12 months. Twenty patients receiving each of the three treatments were randomly selected to participate in the study and 10 from each treatment group were assigned to the exercise and non-exercise options.

What is the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis. Please don\'t use the generic terms found in text books I know this, I can\'t figure out how to related it to this question

Solution

Here our parameter of interest if the fatique level.

It is measured in time gaps of 3 months, 6, 9 and 12

No of persons =20

divided into two groups of 10 each.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So we can conduct a chi square test with a contingency table of 10 columns for 10 persons in each group

and 4 groups for 3, 6, 9 and 12 months

Degree of freedom = 9x3 = 27

Hypotheses are:

H0: Exericse does not reduce fatigue level of cancer patients. There is no association between exercise and fatigue or Before and after fatigue level is the same.

Ha: Exercise reduces the fatigue level.

In a study to compare cancer treatments combined with exercise to determine their effects on the fatigue level of the patients, three treatments (radiation, ch
