The goal of this project is to design a double-reduction helical gearset shown in the bellow figure. Pinion 2 is the driver, and it receives an input power H = 9.5 hp at the speed n = 1500 rpm. The output speed is desired to be between 15% to 20% of the input speed. Consider a design factor n_d =1.5. Gear design All gears are helical gears Use standards in Tables (e.g. 13.2 & 13.4 in the text book). Draw a three dimensional sketch of free body diagram for each gear. Design drivers for a life of 10^8 cycles and reliability of 95%. Specify the following: material, number of teeth, normal and transverse diametrical pitch, diameters of pith circles, normal and transverse pressure angle, and helix angle. Find safety factors guarding against both bending fatigue failure and surface fatigue failure.
