a) captured trip - trips made within mixed use developments. These trips are on internal roadways only and do not use adjacent main roadways. It Results in trip reduction

Example : driving / walking from your office to a restaurant within a large mixed use development but via internal roadways only.

b)pass by trip - trips made as an intermediate stop. Upon exit, trips will continue to travel in the same direction they were travelling before stopping at the site. This is not a new trip

Example : traveling from home to destination and then to shopping center and back to home.

c) diverted trip - trips that are diverted from nearby roadways. Required to use another roadway to access site. Adds traffic to streets directly adjacent to development site. Not to nearby major roadways. Direction of travel upon exit may be similar to that of pass by trips. It is difficult to identify.

d)new trip - this is also called primary trip. This is the main reason for a trip. Upon exit, trips will travel back in the direction from which they came

Difference : pass by trip refers to people who would visit a proposed development but would have been passing right by it on their way somewhere else

Diverted trip refers to traffic which makes a very short diversion to visit the proposed site.
