The American people express a relatively high degree of confidence in the military as an institution yet express less confidence in Congress than in other major institutions. Could people be holding various institutions to different standards, and if so, what might these standards be? Answer in 75 to 150 words.

Most people judge an institution on its performance which is why few people have any regard for Congress or politicians.

A lot of it has to do with the fostering of patriotic and nationalist sympathies/tendencies. The military is, for some, an admirable institution of bravery and sacrifice. However, the reality remains that the military is (financially, institutionally, and globally) a bloated, unwieldy system. It also has to do with America\'s global dominance. Every empire in history (and the U.S. is an empire) has elevated its military in the eyes of its citizenry in order to justify its actions, domestically and around the world. There are numerous aspects to this, all of which cannot be summarized in such a limited amount of writing space.

moreover, Because very few people in congess would be willing to pick a weapon and put their lives on the line for the people. Spending all of the peoples money irresponsibly while you live comfortably is not serving your country.
