Select the functions of macrophage Production of NETs releas

Select the function(s) of macrophage: Production of NETs release of alpha interferon phagocytosis of pathogens and debris secretion of leukotrienes

Solution

c. Phagocytosis of pathogens and debris

and d. Synthesis of Leukotrienes

Monocytes a kind of White blood cells. They enter tissues leaving the blood vessel and undergo a series of changes to become macrophages. They get attracted to chemical signals like Cytokines, and phagocytise (Engulfing the cell) debris and microbes. The engulfed microbes are processed in the Lysosomes of macrophages and the antigens are presented to other T-helper cells to recognise them.

Leukotrienes are localised hormones(autocrine some times paracrine) that regulate immune response. They act as triggers for contraction of smooth muscles etc.,

Macrophages also play a role in wound healing and iron metabolism.

Option \'a\' is not a function. Macrophages clear NETs

Option \'b\' is wrong. Interferon alpha is secreted by NK cells and Lymphocytes
