The generation of new udeas is basically process of creativity which is applicable to any field like art, science, etc. A new idea is sometimes generated by following the past ideas so one can deduce that there is no clear method of idea generation.

Many a timess a great idea is discussed by two men, simultaneously and independently. This might be possible because both the men might have faced common factors (similar approch, similar observations, etc) which help in generation of the same idea for example the theory of evolution by natural selection, independently created by Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace.

Good background and subject knowledge is also needed to understand the concepts behind the idea. Many people read same matter which helps in new idea generation but only few are able to generate needed cross connections. Many times a new idea initially seems unreasonable so generation of new idea also neededs courage and daring to reject or go around the old one. So one should be confident, self assured and sometimes unconventional.

Creativity needs isolation as mistakes creation might be embarrassing. Though sometimes the combination of similar people may help in generation of ideas.

To create there must be sense of ease, relaxation, sense of permissiveness and unsympathic to foolishness so that they can put new ideas infront of public. The group of idea generators should be small and large group may have more ideas but will produce dissonance in many respect. There group should have feeling of informality. They should not be imposed with burden of responsibility which will inhibit idea generation. The cerebration sessions should have relaxed, sinecure tasks to do and should be guided and should have a session-arbiter
