Two angles are supplementary. One is *87 more than twice the other. find the measures of the angles

Solution

Let the given angles be A and B. Since, A and B are supplementary angles, we have B = 1800 - A. ...(1) .Let B be the bigger angle. Then, B = 870 + 2A...(2) On substituting B = 1800 - A in the 2nd equation, we get  1800 - A = 870 + 2A or, 3A = 1800 - 870 = 930. Therefore, A = 310 . Then B = 1800 - A = 1490 .
