Any help would be greatly appreciated. Elementary Statistics question! Conduct a test at the alpha = 0.05 level of significance by determining (a) the null and alternative hypotheses, (b) the test statistic, and (c) the P-value. Assume the samples were obtained independently from a large population using simple random sampling. Test whether p1 > p2.The sample data are x1=123,n1=253,x2=135,and n2=318. (a) Choose the correct null and alternative hypotheses below. (b) Determine the test statistic z0 = D (Round to two decimal places as needed.) (c) Determine the P-value. The P-value is . (Round to three decimal places as needed.)

Solution

(b) p1=123/253 = 0.486166

p2=135/318 = 0.4245283

The test statistic is

Z=(p1-p2)/sqrt(p1*(1-p1)/n1+p2*(1-p2)/n2)

=(0.486166-0.4245283)/sqrt(0.486166*(1-0.486166)/253+0.4245283*(1-0.4245283)/318)

=1.47

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(c) The p-value= P(Z>1.47) =0.071 (from standard normal table)
