hydraulic engineering is the study and application of flow of liquid from one location to another .This can be either through closed pipes or through open channels and hence the names of flow such as closed pipe flow and open channel flow.The study basically deals with the fluid mechanics in relation to collection,storage, control,transport, regulation and measurement of flow of fluid.

Hydraulic has a wide variety of applications. Some of the applications are : design of water supply system,waste water transport system, dam design, bridge abutment design, irrigation channel design,spillway design, and also other applications in environmental engineering.
