Do gq-proteins have 3 subunits like g-proteins?

Solution

G-proteins or Guanine-Nucleotide-Binding proteins are membrane associated proteins that transmit signals from exterior to interior of the cell. There are two main classes of G-protein -Monomeric small G protein and Heterotrimeric G protein.

Heterotricmeric G proteins are following types...Gi/Go,Gq,Gs and G12.

In Gq \'q\' does not strand for anything in particular.

Its has 3 subunits...alpha,beta and gamma.Alpha subunits are of following types....alpha\'q\', alpha\'11\',alpha\'14\',alpha\'15\' and alpha\'16\'.

Gq alpha subunit activates PLC.

It helps in smooth muscle contraction and calcium flux.
