Given the function fx 3x 2 Find an equation of the secant l
Given the function f(x) = 3x +2. Find an equation of the secant line passing through the points x = -1 and x = 0. (write your answer in the form y = mx + b ).
Solution
If: X1=-1 and X2=0
And if:
X1=-1 ---------------> (X+1)=Y
X2=0 ----------------> X=Y
Then:
(X+1)(X)=Y
X2+X=Y (obtaining the first derivative) ---------> Y´=2X+1
Therefore, the equation of the secant line to the function f(x) is:Y´=2X+1
