What properties of titanium make it attractive for use in race-car and jet-engine components? Why is titanium not used widely for engine components in passenger cars?

Titanium’s high strength to weight ratio and corrosion resistance at room and elevated temperature makes it attractive for  use in high performance applications. High cost of titanium is the key reason for not using it in passenger cars. The cost of mass production of the components would drive the final products cost significantly.
