Using the 2 lysozyme solution provided make 20 mu l of 15 ly
Using the 2% lysozyme solution provided, make 20 mu l of 1.5% lysozyme, and 20 mu of 1% lysozyme solution in 1.5 mL tubes. Calculate and fill in the table below to make these solutions at the volumes indicated. (Use C_1V_1 = C_2V_2 to calculate these values).
Solution
First of all 1% solution means 1 gm in 100 ml solvent. In this question, it is 2% i.e 2gm dissolved in 100 ml solvent. So, we will calculate gm/ml by dividing 2 with 100, it will come it to be 2/100 = 0.02 g/ml.
Now, applying the concentration formula,
C1V1=C2V2
Here, C1= 0.02, V1= needs to be calculated
C2= 1.5% = 0.015 g/ml, V2= 20 ul
SO, 0.02 X V1= 0.015 X 20
V1= 15 ul.
So, 15 calculated of lysozyme and 5 ul of water is added to make final volume of 20 ul.
Similarly, the second part will be solved. The answer will be 10 Ul of both water and lysozyme will be added to make final volume 20 ul.
