There are 10 members on a committee The probability of any m

There are 10 members on a committee. The probability of any member attending a randomly chosen meeting is 0.9. The committee cannot do business if more than 3 members are absent. What is the probability that the committee will not be able to do business for a randomly chosen meeting?

Solution

Members on a committee = 10

Prob for any member attending = 0.9

Each member is independent of other member and there are two outcomes

Hence X - no of members attending is binomial (10,0.9)

probability that the committee will not be able to do business for a randomly chosen meeting

= P(>3 members absent)

= P(x<7)

= 0.12795

There are 10 members on a committee. The probability of any member attending a randomly chosen meeting is 0.9. The committee cannot do business if more than 3 m
