give an example of a cation, and describe its charge?

Solution

Cation are positively charged atom .They are formed by losing one or more electron in this way they become positively charged.

Example. When Calcium ions loses two electron cation of calcium is formed having two positive charge.

Calcium has 20 proton and 20 electron while Cation of calcium will have 20 proton and 18 electron i.e having two positive charge..

When atom has less than 8 electron they tend to form bond with other atom by losing or gaining electron or sharing electron .e.g Na+, Ca +2, Mg+2
