A long straight wire lies on a table and carries a current I

A long, straight wire lies on a table and carries a current I. As the drawing shows, a small circular loop of wire is pushed across the top of the table from position 1 to position 2. Determine the direction of the induced current, clockwise or counterclockwise, as the loop moves past (a) position 1 and (b) position 2.

Solution

a)

At Point 1,the induced flux produced by the current in the wire is into the paper ,The flux through the loop increases as loop moves closer to the wire .The flux into the paper is produced only by a clockwise induced current

.b)

At point 2 ,the induced flux produced by the current in the wire is into the paper ,the flux through the loop decreases as loop moves away from the wire .The flux into the paper is produced only by a clockwise induced current
