Hypothesis testing is used for to prove or disprove any idea or proposition statistically. Consider a claim made by the company that the drug the manufacture works amazingly well to cure childhood obesity in the kids of America.

Over here, the sample can be randomly chosen kids from all over the US. They can be asked whether they have taken that drug/dietary supplement or not. Their BMI (Body Mass Index) can be measured before and after administering the supplement to them. If the mean of the BMI is different significantly, then the drug works. Else it doesn\'t. NOTE: There are no dependent variables to be regressede against anything. BMI is the only parameter that we are using and that is an independent parameter.
