A plane travels 100 miles at a heading of N38°W. It then changes direction and travels 135 miles at a heading of N67°W. How far is the plane from its original position.

the question is from the laws of sine and cosine section

Solution

suppose a= 100 and b= 133 and angle C = 67

c^2 =a^2+b^2 -2abcosc by using cosine law

c^2 = 10000+17689-2*100*133cos67

c^2 =27689-10393.45

c^2 =17295.55

c=131.51 miles
