We need to state three real life examples where the sample mean needs to be compared to the population mean:

Example 1:

We got a sample fo 30 students , who appear for SAT exam. There scores are noted and the mean score is denoted as x bar. The last year\'s average score of SAT was 1200

So our aim is to find out if the sample of 30 students scored better than 1200 or not

Suppose there ia bulb manufacturing company , and it claims that the bulb has the average life of 100 hours

So we can randomly select any 20 bulbs from the lot and check if the claim is true

In this case we select the 20 bulbs randomly and find the average hours they last for, and we expect that this sample mean is not significantly different from the claim made of 100 hours.

Suppose we need to find out if the average weight of newborn babies now is more than the national average 10 years back
