What are the advantages and disadvantages of using confidenc
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using confidence intervals as an alternative approach to statistical inference? Please cite your resources and use your own words in your explanation.
Solution
When we do sampling our main aim is to get the information related to some parameter like mean, proportion, standard deviation, median, etc of the population, since while doing sampling the errors are bound to happen and it is not possible to get the accurate information of the parameter from the sample. Which are the limititions of the sampling.
Now by defining the confidence interval we are sure the the parameter of the population will lie in that interval, which in other words means that we get the lower and the upper limits for the population parameter.
Hence we could decide whether or not the claimed value of the parameter is true or not. This thing is not possible statistical inference
The disadvantage of confidenmce interval is that we do not get the exact value of the parameter, and as we increase our confidence level, the length of the confidence interval also increases, which in turn means we almost lost the actual value of the parameter, as the confidence level reaches 100% the length of the confidence interval becomes infinite.Same is not true in statistical inference
