Find the area under the normal curve to the left of z 297 P

Find the area under the normal curve to the left of z = -2.97. Please enter your answer in the box below. Round your answer to 4 decimal places, if necessary.

Solution

As the area to the left of z=-2.97 is being asked.

To use the statistics table we use the symmetric property.

This is equivalent to the area to the right of z=2.97 as standard normal is symmtric about origin.

looking from the table,

Note that the table gives areas to the left of any number and as total area is 1.

we calculate area to left of z=2.97 and subtract 1 from it to get the area to the right.

From table area to the left of z=2.97 is 0.9985

Hence,Area to right is 1-0.9985=0.0015

Ans:0.0015

Hope this helps, Cheers!!
