A battery pack with an open circuit voltage of 300 V and an effective resistance of 0.3
ohms is dead-shorted (zero resistance load). What is the discharge current? What is the
rate of heat generation in the shorted battery pack?
Solution
Given,
V= 300v, R= .3 ohms
We know that
Current i= V/R = 300/.3 = 1000 amp
Heat will dissipatein the form of power, external resistance load is zero,
Hence heat loss = i^2×R = 1000^2×.3= 3× 10^5 watt
