Lab Assignment — One-way ANOVA
Instruction: Based on the data we collected in the class, please answer the following questions and attach the appropriate tables from SPSS output.
1. Conduct a one-way ANOVA analysis using SPSS.

2. Answer the following question: a. Can the assumption of homogeneity of variance be maintained? Report the appropriate results to support your answer. b. Results from primary statistical test (oneway ANOVA) c. Results from pre-planned comparison(s). Describe the comparison(s) used and the statistical significance of the results pertaining to each. d. Results from post-hoc tests if needed.

3. Decision about overall null hypothesis (from primary statistical test) 4. What verbal conclusions can be made? Be sure to report these based of all results reported above.

Solution

ANOVA table
Source DF SS MS F P
factor 2 106.41 53.21 14.35 0.001
Error 11 40.80 3.71
Total 13 147.21

S = 1.926 R-Sq = 72.29% R-Sq(adj) = 67.25%

Individual 95% CIs For Mean Based on
Pooled StDev
Level N Mean StDev ----+---------+---------+---------+-----
1 5 3.800 3.033 (------*-----)
2 5 4.000 1.000 (-----*------)
3 4 10.000 0.000 (------*------)
----+---------+---------+---------+-----
3.0 6.0 9.0 12.0

Pooled StDev = 1.926

a. Can the assumption of homogeneity of variance be maintained?

as p-value is 0.001 < 0.05 we cannot assume the homogenity

b. Results from primary statistical test

there is significant effect in different groups

c. Results from pre-planned comparison(s).

the p-value for each comparison is

1 2
2 0.8726
3 0.0017 0.0017

here only 1 and 2 gives non significant effect

and both 2 and 3 , 1 and 3 have significant effect, so the =y are differ at 5% level of significance,
