Problem #1

The graph of g(x) contains the point (6,-9). For each of the following graph transformations, give the x and y coordinates of the point on the new graph which corresponds to (6,-9) on g(x):

a) g(2x)-5

Problem #2

Convert the following angles from degrees to radians and simplify as much as possible:

a) 150 degrees

b) -200 degrees

Solution

1) ( 6 , -9)

a) g(2x) -5

horizontal copresiion by 2 units and vertical shift down by 5 units

( 6 /2 -9 -5) ----> ( 3 , -14)

b) -g(-x)/3 +1

g(-x) -- reflection across x axis: ( -6 , -9)

-g(-x)/3 ---> graph is vertically compressed by 1/3 an dreflected over x axis -g(-x)/3

(-6 , -(-9/3) ) = ( -6 , 3)

2)

a) 150 degrees --->

In radians = 150(pi/180) = 5pi/6 = 2.62 radians

b) -200 deg

In radians = -200(pi/180) =-10pi/9 = -3.49 radians
