The running speed is 6 mph more than walking speed.

So running speed = (x+6) mph

The time taken to walk 1 mile = 1/x hrs

The time in hours = 45/60 = 3/4

So 1/x + 5/(x+6) = 3/4

((x+6) + 5x) / x(x+6) = 3/4

(6x+6)/(x^2 + 6x) = 3/4

4(6x+6) = 3(x^2+6x)

24x + 24 = 3x^2 + 18x

3x^2 - 6x - 24 = 0
