Assume that the frequency of the recessive MC1R allele is 05
Assume that the frequency of the recessive MC1R allele is 0.5 so that 25% of the bears are white, and that the fitness of black bears is reduced by 20% because of selective hunting. What is the expected allele frequency of the recessive allele after one generation if only black bears are hunted?
Solution
Answer :-
f = 0.5
25% white bears.
we can use a formula for expected frequency as below,
f =p2+2pq+q2
so
p2= 0.5
2pq=0.25
q2=0.2
so f= 0.5+0.25+0.2
f = 0.95
now we have to calculate the proportion of recessive allele after 1 generation.
qn= q0/1+nqo
q1= 0.5 /1+1*0.5
q1 = 0.66 ( proportion of allele after one generation )
so fn = f*qn = 0.95*0.66 = 0.63
so expected allele frequincies will be 0.63 .
