The authors do not know if the TP53 retrogenes produce funct

The authors do not know if the TP53 retrogenes produce functional protect. Suggest a way to test whether they do. If they do not produce functional protein, how might the TPSS retrogenes still be protective?

well may be it is a subunit based protiend and subunits encoded by TP53 reterogene compliment the endogenous nonfunctional protien/subunit and make it working..
