Hello.
SolidWorks Help. I need help (step by step) on how to draw the basic part shown below with the details.
Thank you very much!
1. Base Feature: The overall dimensions of the panel are 400mm long x 100mm tall x 6.35mm thick. Dovetails: As shown in the dimensioned sketch, each dovetail is 15mm wide at the base x 5mm wide at the edge x 10mm deep. The center-to-center spacing beween dovetail cuts is 25mm. The vertical distance from the bottom edge of the drawer to the center of the first dovetail cut is 12.5 mm. There are 4 dovetail cuts on each end of the drawer. Groove: There is a 3mm wide x 2mm deep groove along the bottom as shon in the detail. This Groove holds the bottom panel of the drawer. The groove should be centered in the bottom dovetail. Fillets: The lengthwise top and bottom edges of the drawer panel have a 2.5mm radius fillet as shown on the detail. Color: Change the color of the drawer side to any color you like other than SW default gray. Feature Names: For each feature in your feature tree, change the default feature name to a more meaningful name that someone else looking at your model would understand 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.Solution
The easiest way to make this part (if you are a solidworks beginner) is to use Extrude and Normal Cut Features otherwise Sheet Metal (as thickness is 5mm )
You just need to be familiar with these two features (for this part)
Note: You must select proper face and sketch
These are few simple steps to proceed with the modelling.
1) Select New --> Part (for 3D modelling)
2) Select Sketch
3) Select any Plane
4) Draw rectangle of 400 x 100
5) Finish Sketch and Extrude (Extrude distance = 5mm)
Here you know how extrusion works along the defined vector
6) Select Fillet and give 2.5Radium to the edge Shown in DETAIL B
7) For the Cutouts select SKETCH and SELECT THE FACE
8) Draw the lines with dimensions as given and FINISH
9) in EXTRUDE ---> Define Distance and SELECT SUBSTRACT (in the extrude menu ) as wee need to remove the material
10) Using SKetch and EXTRUDE SUBSTRACT you can ge the part as it is shown
For DRAFTING
Select NEW --> 2D Drawing
Select BASE VIEW..
I would like to advice you when it comes to engineering softwares
Do not learn to do things, Do things to Learn.
I had never worked on 3D modelling software just because i always wanted detailed tutorials
and i procrastinated this as i thought of learning it later or ask someone, when i was employed i regretted this
Then i decided not to learn, i decided to do.
I asked my manager to give me 3D modelling work (ofcourse with deadlines)
and then it became my need. I did and learnt.
Make mistakes it is fun.
